Both neighborhoods are about 7 or 8 km from downtown, both developed around the same time, similar economic level, both have a cache for being near a "natural" attraction. Seems like a good "apples" comparison to me.

I'd prefer High Park. It has a better commercial district on Bloor IMO, better access to transit, has a hospital, and if I wanted to see the lake or waterfront trail I could bike the 15 minutes to it.
That's a tough one, and although I like the Beaches neighbourhood better than High Park, I gotta give the nod to High Park because of its location on the subway line vs. The Beaches being a real pain to get to.
I opted for High Park. Better transit access, a preferable "natural" amenity for me and I like the Roncesvalles strip more than Queen East. And I'm a bit biased towards the west end vis-a-vis the east end.
