I need to go to Toronto from Niagara Falls today. Getting there is no problem. Getting back may be an issue. Greyhound, Coach Canada and Megabus say the last trip is at 11pm and the last GO is 10:48pm.

Problem is I am going to be in TO until 11:45ish pm. As far as I can see that leaves me screwed for transportation back and a hotel is out of my price range.

Is there any kind of for lack of a better term "HIDDEN GEMS" of late night transportation or am I going to be stuck in TO until the next morning??

If I have to hang out there overnight what is the area between Bathurst & Bloor and Union Station like at around midnight? Is that a good/safe/family area of the city or should I be bringing something for protection and keep an eye over the shoulder at all times? I have zero interest in finding myself between 2 rival gangs that are about to battle it out.

Does Union station close and lock their doors at night time or is it 24hrs and people are able to sit indoors there to wait for the first train back?

Only other option is a Taxi which may or may not be more expensive than a hotel
It is a safe area. Might not be many things open overnight in the immediate area though.

Not sure about the train station.

That is for sure, we asked our one taxi driver, just out of curiosity the cost of a taxi to Niagara Falls from Toronto; he said in the neighborhood of $200 to $250. I believe him, we though the taxi fares were very high.

Rent a car if you have a driver's licence. Or get a cheap hotel out near the airport and take a bus out there (you can find cheap airport hotels for $40 or $50 on hotwire or priceline).
