Thinking of moving to Toronto. Have always planned on homeschooling my children, but just in case it doesn't work out...how are the schools in the Toronto area? I can't imagine that they could be any worse than the schools here(in PA)!

Schools in the Greater Toronto Area are required to teach a curriculum mandated by the Ontario government. This to ensure, as much as possible, that, regardless of where a child goes to school in the province, it will receive the same education.

Certainly there are differences in philosophies and facilities between schools, but the base curriculum is standard.

The Ontario Ministry of Education also has standardized testing in place for various grade levels. Every three years, students province-wide are given standardized tests to determine if their school has delivered the mandated curriculum to the same degree as other schools in the province.

The rationale is that this system helps identify any lapses in curriculum delivery that may occur at a specific school.

As far as the quality of education goes, that's a very individual assessment. However, kids seem to graduating with a reasonable enough knowledge of reading, writing, and arithmetic to advance in careers or further education both in Canada and other countries.
