I like the architecture in the urban core of Chicago more compared to Toronto. But in all aspects like transportation, crime rate, quality of life, Toronto definitely is superior

Maybe a bit elaboration of "quality of life" will help?

wow... what a shining start you're off to at City-Data. Can't wait for the wisdom you'll impart in future posts.

free health care, cheaper education.. and some would argue that it's better, more relaxed. i also want to include that regarding transportation, the city will be expanding their light rail system which will better connect the city center with it's suburbs and pearson airport.

The "New York of the North" is laughable. You Canadians who think Toronto is better are crazy. Ive been several times and the city is definitely great in a corny naive kind of way. The women are great, however. They love guys from Chicago, trust me.

Native Chicagoan checking in here. I have visited Toronto numerous times and love it! Chicago has utilized it's lakefront better, Toronto has the edge in crime (lack of). Chicago's skyscraper architecture is better too, IMHO. The rest is a wash if you ask me.

I've read that T.O. has a better mass transit infrastructure (TTC), but I have only used it a few times, compared to the thousands of times I've used the CTA, (which is adequate for about 60% of Chicago). I love both cities!

The ethnic diversity of Chicago is much more rooted in the city as oppose to the one in Toronto which is fairly new therefor giving Chicago extra points (in my book) and making the relative history of Chicago much more interesting than the one of Toronto.

The Chicago transit system is better if you stay within the city core as oppose to Toronto which becomes better once you reach the suburbs.

Chicago's neighborhoods have a better feel than most of Torontos's althought one can find interesting ones in Toronto such as Cabbagetown, the Annex etc...

The skyline of Chicago is also extraordinaire while the Toronto one is nice. And the architecture of Chicago surpasses Toronto by far.

The Chicago Lake front is amazing and the Toronto lake front is not very appealing. Chicago scored a lot of points with the Chicago river and the canyon it creates with all the high rise located on both side. That is something to see.

Chicago has more personality than Toronto because of the electric Blues spirit since the 50's. It was also home of house music in the late 80's/early 90's.

The Chicago fans are real fans, the Wrigley field is a jewel while the Toronto sports centers are boring corporate buildings.

Chicago seems to have a better restaurant, club and theater scene but since i am no specialist of that i cant tell for sure. The same applies for the museums.

Toronto has an interesting Chinatown and a amazing Caribean festival while Chicago as an interesting huge Black Community mainly located in the south and west along with several impressive Polish areas.

I assume that Toronto is doing better in the safety department althought things are worsening. Chicago's south and west side is frightening althought interesting socially speaking.

Both cities tries to copy New York in many ways and Toronto is even pathetic in that way. I mean the Dundas Square is obviously an attempt to create a Times Square but the result is poor and only attracts or impresse's the suburban kids that never really experienced anything else.

Both cities have destroyed old architecture to make room for modern high rise condo's and office building and both places have a bad not for that.

The Magnificient mile in Chicago (Michigan Avenue) surely beats Yonge Street in Toronto.

Chicago has Obama while Toronto has Mal Lastman....hahahahihihhi

So i guess my choice goes to Chicago after analysing all these aspects...yeah, by far !

Toronto was (believe it or not) founded much earlier than Chicago, therefore it's older and has more history albiet most of it not well known.
Chicago doesnt have as many buildings as Toronto but still looks better than Toronto's skyline. Chicago like many big cities have people living there from all over the world, but not like Toronto where it's more balanced where Chicago is mostly black or white (kind of boring..)
Transportation in Toronto is better, only New York has a larger transit system.

Chicago cubs are over 100 years old and have won 2 championships which is dispicable(and none within the last hundred years).. Maple Leafs are terrible but have won many championships and they havent broken the 50+ year drought(although they probably will).

The weather in both cities are similar but I guess chicago gets more wind...

The restaurant, club, night life scene are even. Crime level difference is obvious.

Oprah is in Chicago (I hate her.. man killing troll)

The Dundas Square is kind of pathetic considering the fact that it is supposed to be the symbol of DOWNTOWN but ends up being something almost rundown (despite the neon signs), disorderly and lacking aesthetic value when attempting to be metropolitan and glamorous.
Shops on Yonge street, better not mention those cuz most of them are a disgrace. The shopping street from King all the way to Bloor is extremely boring. 90% of the store sell cheap and generic clothing and electronics.

On the other hand, I find there are more beautiful single family houses in downtown Toronto. I am not sure about the case in Chicago but would assume not as many.

I have been to toronto many times in my life, i go almost once a year .i love the drive from chicago. Most of my relatives live there. When i was a kid i spent my summers around collage and bathurst streets. I loved it the people were vary kind, compared to the west side of chicago were i lived.i still think its a wonderful city, if i had to move from chicago i would live in toronto.that aside, all torontonians are alike they think that toronto is new york. New york isn't as great as people think.most people in new york have never been out of their neighborhood.when people think of how international new york is, its only in manhattan, the rest of new york city is like milwaukee. Untill the 1960's toronto was sleepy town. In the 1960's chicago was the second largest city in the u.s. It was a powerhouse of industry. What makes chicago great is its neighborhoods, and segregration we value our neighborhoods and we don't want no strangers in it.i grew up in little italy and thats the way we want it.but my cousins in toronto thought we were racist, because in toronto they all get along. Now when i go to toronto they sing a differant tune.they are not as muticultrual as they once were.in conclusion chicago is a world class city without trying, toronto try's to hard to be a world class city and nobody notices. But i still love poor little toronttto.i added the extra t's to agrivate torontonians.
