Hello, I'm a high school student and stressing to figure out about universities.
I really want to go to university in Europe (mostly Great Britain) but I'm really confused with the whole process.
I know that in the US students have to take a year at an american college then they can study abroad but does this apply to canadians too??
I really just want to take my full 4 years of uni in england but I'm not really sure how to go about that or if it's even possible.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

If you want to start and complete all of your degree at a British university, then you'll have to apply directly to one or more such universities through UCAS. (Here's a Wikipedia entry about UCAS and how the process works in general.) I don't know whether your Canadian academic credentials need to be formally evaluated in order to do so. You'll have to figure that out for yourself.

By the way, without scholarship(s) or access to some kind of family trust, this would cost your parents a fortune. You should just study somewhere in Canada, preferably close enough to home that you can continue to live with your folks, if you want save them a pile of dough.

I taught at Queen's University Belfast for years, before moving to Canada. You can go straight to the UK after you graduate Grade 12 in Canada. As the previous poster observed, you do need to apply through UCAS. Put in a late application if you have missed the deadline - most institutions will look at them. The chances of getting accepted for medicine, dentistry etc. are very slight, so it's probably not worth bothering with these subjects. Yes, tuition fees are rather higher than in Canada (typically CAD 20 000 per year) BUT you need to remember that degrees are typically 3 rather than 4 years long so you save money that way, whilst the cost of living in the UK is quite low.

You also normally need to have a clear idea of what you want to study before you go - you often can't just pick a mixture of modules as you progress like in some N American universities, but have to decide in advance whether you want to study Psychology, Sociology or Politics (for example).

Look at your chosen university's website (e.g., qub.ac.uk) to see what the entrance requirements are for your particular subject - look for the 'international students' link.

And do your research beforehand. Some UK universities are far better than others!

Please feel free to pm me if you have any other queries!
