Anyone a frequent user of online services like Kijiji, Craiglist or e-bay? Have your experiences been positive or any strange ones. I have had some good experiences and some strange ones.

Good... when I agree on a price, meet the person and do the exchange with out any problems. I have got tickets to events several times and never had any issues, but have never have to pay mark ups (very very very lucky so far).

Bad experiences a few ... 1. waiting for someone to show up who never did and never replied to my follow up contact messages (I really was worried something happen to them).

2. Posting an add for a yard sale that started at 9 am without a phone number listed ... and getting PHONE calls from people who looked up my phone number by using my address at 5:30 am asking about things (Totally messed up lol.... never having a yard sale again ).

Anyone else have any feedback about the use of these types of services in and around the GTA?

I've used Kijiji a few times and it was ok. The purchaser of our snow tires did show up with less money than agreed. My husband being a soft soul let him get away with it.

I get how that can happen though. Some people can really twist your arm to get the price down. I 100% prefer to be the buying then the seller.

I do pretty well with kijiji. I do notice a lot of buyers simply don't know the concept of haggling, like the first question they ask is "what's your lowest price?"..."my lowest price is a secret, make me an offer", is always my reply.

I sort of suck at haggling and might just walk away. I am getting a bit better, but really not something I am great at when it comes to prices to buying things. There is an art to that. When I want to get a better price for something I get someone else to do my bidding. I know some great hagglers.... but am too shy to do the dirty work myself. I have bought like a dozens things on kijiji or craigslist (more then I initially remembered) and ironically have always ended up getting someone else to pick the items up for me or they have been e-tickets (which I know can be a high risk for fraud ... but all 3 times I have been lucky and bought stuff at cost and from credible people). Mind you the items I buy are not like major purchases ( tickets, belly dancing costumes, toys and bags ... nonsense like that). If it was a car or something big then I would put more effort in to haggling.

I always use Kijiji for buying textbooks for school. I have also used it to sell electronics in the past.

I used Kijiji (Montreal) to sell a pressure cooker last year. Things went very well, and I got my price.

This spring, we'll put a few more items on Kijiji. I used a photo on my ad as well.

There are local 'garage sales' available on Facebook, too.
