I am new to Canada and found a place to stay in Toronto for a few months. The leaseholder agreed to sublet the apt for me. He informed to me that the utilities (electricity + internet) would be shared amongst the roommates. I paid the initial deposit which would cover for the final month's rent.
Now, all of this was verbal. I don't think he even informed the landlord/property manager that he was subletting the rooms in the apt. Basically, the other roommates cover the rent and he need not pay anything out of his own pocket to the landlord.
The problem is that one of the roommate disappeared on him and he wants me to pay his part of the utility bill as well.
I am moving out in next 30 days and the initial deposit is going to cover it. If I refuse to pay the other guys share of the utility bill, can he kick me out of the apartment by calling the police on me? He lies a lot usually and there is a good chance he could state that I never paid the initial deposit and that I need to vacate immediately.
I already stayed here for 3 months and this will be my last and final month.
