My boyfriend currently lives Toronto and works in Scarborough as we are currently taking our relationship to the next level I have some concerns. He wants to move to Ajax and I would prefer to stay in Toronto; especially since my work in Finance will be more beneficial being in the Toronto region. How hard are houses to buy in Toronto? A friend of mine told me that it is not as easy as buying a home in the United States.

it's harder to get mortgage approval from the bank here in canada, we don't have zero down, interest only for 2 years etc. but if you have 25% down the banks will have no problem giving you the rest.
At a minimum you need at least 5% down.

Ajax is in the Toronto region. It, along with Whitby, Pickering and Oshawa, essentially form the eastern suburbs of Toronto.

Many people who live in Ajax commute daily to Toronto for work. The GO train system is a convenient method of reaching the downtown financial district in about 30 minutes.

From a real estate perspective, for the same money you'll likely find a larger house with a larger lot in Ajax than you will in central Toronto.

The GO train (commuter rail) is certainly a good option. The Lakeshore East line goes from Toronto, to Pickering, to Ajax, to Whitby, to Oshawa. All 4 are 'burbs' of Toronto, but Oshawa is a city in it's own right as well. I'd still say that more people leave Oshawa to work then head to Oshawa, but be aware that some will also head into Oshawa for work too. Whitby less so. Ajax and Pickering are bedroom communities.
