My wife and I have a trip planned for a couple weeks, and we're not worried about traveling, especially when the Bay Area where we live has been hit hard. It's also a great time to travel a bit because we can both work from anywhere right now.

But we don't want to visit a ghost town. Are museums, Yorkville restaurants, etc staying open?

Thesegoto11.

If you think for a minute about all of the " tourist stuff " that you would visit on a normal trip to Toronto....Its closed. I won't write a long list , but I would strongly suggest that you don't come for at least 6 weeks.

Things that are not tourist attractions are also closed. The city of Toronto has closed all of their public facilities. The courts are either closed entirely, or they are prohibiting public admission. Shopping malls are operating but with reduced hours, and some retailers are closed. Schools are closed, as are the Universities and colleges. Day care facilities are closed. Dentists are only seeing emergency patients.

Essential city services such as garbage collection, water/ sewer repairs and road/ street light repairs repairs, and the 311 phone service are in full operation.

The Ontario casinos are all closed. All of the music and live stage venues are closed. Many large companies have told their employees to work at home. Transit is running but with reduced schedules, and reduced frequency. Intercity bus and rail services are reduced. All museums, art galleries, and the like are closed.

Medical clinics are testing everyone who arrives. Grocery stores and pharmacies are open. The Liquor Control Board stores and the Beer Stores are open. For now. My local café is running half hours with 3 staff people instead of their usual 7 . Fast food places are open, but not busy at all. Home food delivery services are reporting a big uptick in their call load.

Police calls for service are down by about 25 percent, as are the car accident incidents.

Nationally, the Federal Government is advising Canadians who are abroad to get home now, before international flights are cancelled. Our confirmed cases are under 300 people, and we have had ONE death, a elderly man in a nursing home in Vancouver. Many of the people who are sick will recover just fine.

I think that compared to the USA, we are being sensible, and acting with caution.

Come and see us later this spring. Cheers.

OP, in case you haven't been paying any attention to the global news the whole world is shutting down to travellers. Canada is closing to travellers. So is your own country, even some of the states within your country are going to be closing their borders to non-essential travelling between states and within states. It is NOT a great time for anybody in the world to travel anywhere.

Just because you are not worried doesn't mean you don't have something to be worried about and other people to be worried about. Borders are going to be closing to travellers so you should be worried about travelling since you're at risk of getting trapped and not being able to return home to where you belong. If you do cross the border into Canada you will be required to isolate yourselves for two weeks immediately upon entry.

And if you are coming from a place that has been hard hit that means you and your wife are most likely carriers of the virus now so you should have some consideration for the safety of the places you want to be travelling to and the people that you would be carrying the virus to.

Get yourself tested for the virus before you go anywhere. Stay home until after a vaccine has been made available to all the people in the places you want to visit so you don't put other people at risk.

.

I think it'll take longer than spring for this to get under control.

OP - please stay home. If you're not worried you're being ignorant.

If you're getting cabin fever, go for a drive in your own state and go for a hike or bike ride, it's probably the safest activity you can do outside your house. Only go with the members of your household and avoid touching any railings or using park bathrooms/outhouses. Keep the windows of your car open in case one of the members of your household has the virus but not showing any symptoms (they could still be infectious), that way the infected air they exhale goes out the window.

believe me, communities down to the local level in the US are also acting with caution and sensibility. they are doing what is necessary, and people have been remarkably cooperative.

The US gives more powers to the individual states, and states often to localities. What’s currently needed in NY isn’t needed in Wyoming (at least yet).
