Toronto - Family friendly area (rental, condo, townhouses)

Hi

Our family has a child of 1yr old. we are planning to move to Toronto and will be there to visit next wk!

1) Which suburbs are family-friendly with reasonably good schools?
2) We are considering rental for the first few years, which area has reasonably priced condo or townhouses that is good for family?
3) Where can I read up about characteristics of each suburbs?

It really all depends on what you want to spend on a home. The Beaches are a great place to live but very pricey. Markham, Ajax, Pickering are all suburbs of Toronto and are great for families. Out of the city but close for everything and you can pick up a house for about 250K. I am not sure about rent. I do know that in the beaches, I paid 1300/m for a 2 bdrm in a house. Very expensive.
