Hi,

Just out of curiousity, is the White Oaks unsafe? I'm moving to Whitby for work and looking for an apartment.

I am not too familiar with the Whitby area. Any recommendations on good /safe places to live?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, L

White oaks (actually i think they're calling it highland towers or something nowadays) consists of 4 bleak-looking 60s-era apartment towers, each about 20 floors high. There are 2 plazas adjacent to the complex which contain bars, take-out restaurants, a drug store, dollar store and grocery store, among other services. City buses and inter-regional transit are very accessable from the area. The rent is a little expensive...had a friend who lived there, and it was 900 dollars a month for a 2 bedroom apartment...or maybe it was a 3 bedroom.

anyhow, the apartments seemed to be fair-sized and livable...did'nt see any vermin or insects....the neighborhood can be a little rough around the edges, but i can't recall a murder ever taking place there....whitby is generally a very safe town...however, there are some younger folks who live at white oaks that hang out in the plazas during the evening and make trouble for other kids...ive heard of people getting beat up and having their belongings stolen around that area....but if you're not a kid and don't go outside at night or get involved in drugs and drinking, white oaks seems like a fair place to live day-to day.
