Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this... I have dual citizenship and moved back to Canada from the US 8 years ago. I did not know that I am supposed to be filing income taxes for the IRS yearly. Anyhow, I am in the process of doing my 2006-2008 income taxes now because my husband and I plan on moving to the US soon and the Montreal US embassy is the one who informed us of the need. Did anyone file their own taxes themselves and if so, did you use the 1040EZ form? H & R Block wants $180 for each year (ouch) to do my taxes and I would like to avoid using them if possible! Thanks in advance!

You might some helpful information here: U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad

My US-born wife files her US tax return herself every year and has no problems. Mind you, she only has earned income from Canada, so more complicated income situations might lead to more complicated returns.

If you just have Canadian income and it's under the Foreign Income exclusion amount, you shouldn't need to pay H&R anything.

I'd also give the IRS international office a call if I had any questions: 215-516-2000

Thanks for the fast reply! I called the IRS number you gave me and they were quite helpful. I finally figured out the forms and plan on spending this weekend figuring out how to complete them. I prefer doing that than spending almost $600 at H&R Block! Thanks again!!! You were so helpful!
