I will be finishing up my bachelors this year in Chicago, Illinois and I have been tossing around the idea of moving to Toronto. I have actually never been to the city, but it has always fascinated me.

I was wondering if I could post a bit about myself and maybe somebody could let me know of Toronto is right for me?

I am an illustrator, musician, vegan, and I prefer to ride a bicycle. Would a life in Toronto be good for me?

Stick to downtown neighbourhoods like Kensington Market and The Annex.
You'll be in good company.

Toronto is a very nice city, but I'm afraid you might be disappointed if you move from Chicago.

Not really, Toronto is a completely different experience than Chicago, he misses out on nothing. What could dissapoint him moving to a completely different city and trying something new?

This is not a city vs city thread or forum.

The OP asked for some information on Toronto so let's stick with that topic.

Toronto is dedicated to adding more and more reserved bike lanes. Our current Mayor is a big supporter of moving people rather than just moving cars. There are plenty of areas downtown or close to downtown that would be a great place to live. Somebody has already mentioned The Annex and Kensington Market. My suggestion would be to visit the city before you get too involved in any plans.

Yes. Based on how you described yourself, you will probably love Toronto and will fit right in, probably much more so than in Chicago.

It's really hard to say one way or another if the city is a good fit for you based on that brief description of yourself. However, if I had to say one way or another I'd probably say yes.

The downtown/central part of the city is very diverse. There's a little something for everyone, and it tends to be very liberal compared to many parts of the United States. From the little that I've seen of Chicago, i'd say it has the windy city beat in that aspect as well.

I would definitely suggest that you plan an extended visit prior to making any decisions.

I live in Chicago too, and I've been to Toronto many times. Also considering a move. It's a great city w/ a lot more diversity when it comes to culture and demographics. Not as homogenous as Chicago. In otherwords, you can live in Lincoln Park and never see anyone but white Irish Bears fans. The only thing that concerns me is their healthcare, which I posted a question about. But I think you would like Toronto b/c it's a world class city w/ weather similar to chicago and tons to do.
