Considering the 2007 + Tundra as my next truck. I need the hauling & towing capacity. I'm buying used and it won't be a 'daily driver', so the fuel economy isn't a huge factor.
Tundra owners, what is the good and bad of this truck, and things to look out for?
Good truck overall. The only model year to avoid is the 2007's.
They have an active customer satisfaction bulletin do to camshaft failures that were caused by casting errors from the supplier. It has only impacted 20 trucks so far. If the failure does occur Toyota will replace the engine and extend the warranty or repurchase the truck. Unfortunately, I believe this only applies to original owners, so that right there is a pretty good reason to avoid the 2007's.
There was a recall of over 15,000 2007's do to failures of the propellor shafts in the 4WD systems. There are also numerous issues related to the 4WD system on that model year and many owner's have complained of failures.
So, stick with the 2008's or newer as all of the 2007's issues were remedied in the later model years.
When it comes to alignments and brakes those are issues that are generally related to the driver and what they are using the truck for. I haven't seen any major issues those areas on the fleets I have worked with that have Tundra's.

If you want a real truck and intend to use it as such, get one of the big three offerings instead. The Toyota is a yuppie mobile and isn't even in the same class. How many construction, contractors and heavy users do you see using them? Little to none. How many yuppies do you see 4X4ing over speed bumps at the mall with them? Many and almost most of them. If you are going to use it lightly and not really HD work it should be fine though. They still haven't gotten the engine, transmission, suspension and powerband right compared to their USA counterparts. Just my humble opinion but many domestic truck owners will agree!
The Tundra is the best full sized pickup on the road. They are by far the most reliable, and are up to nearly any job.
I disagee they don't have a 3/4 ton or a 1-ton model and do not have a diesel motor for heavy towing/hauling.
they had a concept 1-ton diesel dually but as of late have not put it into production. If they did that then they may be able to compete in the sull size market but right now they only have gas powered 1/2 tons.
No 3/4 or 1 ton, but if your looking for a 1/2 ion truck you cold do a lot worse, then again the tacoma's or good also and they hold there value good if you trade it in a few years.
