Poor judgement; hybrid or otherwise.

Like any car, you must look at the horsepower and torque of that car's motor to determine how much power it has. Some hybrids have decent horsepower and torque, others have less.

The new Toyoto Camry Hybrids and Avalons have 200HP and good torque. They have more power than the non-hybrid Camry and more power than many other cars on the road today. You step on the gas and they go fast.

Like others said, it's more the driver than the car..

I've driven a 2001 Prius and I found it to have more power than my 1999 Honda Civic for sure.

They do, but they're also much heavier.

I agree with several others that it's more poor judgment on the Prius driver, but I definitely agree that driving severely underpowered cars (hybrid or not) is annoying at best, bordering on downright dangerous. I'm not a power snob, but if it weighs more than about 2500lbs and is putting out less than about 130-140HP, forget it. Won't drive it.

You have no idea. I own a hybrid. If driven right, they have kick ars power, because of combined gas and electric engines. Esp the new Prius V, as they remapped power train for more power.
I tried to chase a gal in my hood in older Prius, in my Silverado, and apparently she knew how to drive and was not afraid to. She dusted my V8 in a heartbeat.

throw 4 people and some luggage in and they can be death machines on the highway.

I don't understand why so many people in Phoenix own hybrids/Prius it's all freeway driving. A hybrid saves you money in stop and go traffic especially a Toyota designed hybrid sysytem where it operates strictly on electricity at low speeds.. Anybody who thinks a hybrid is going to save gas going 65 or 75 MPH is a wishful thinker...might as well drive a a good 4 cylinder car and get the same mileage.

Driving up the I17 to Flagstaff is a 6000 foot climb in just over an hour and a half. I had a brand new Ford Focus rental last summer and it would barely do 65 up the steep parts. Had a Kia Forte in October did 75 up those hills. Your speed will vary.

Living in the West and having family in CAL, that is my concern. BTW, thinking about moving to Prescott. Anyway, I know what those long steep hills are like. I-70 going west out of Denver, I-8 going west out of Yuma, I-10 Going east out of Indio and the Grapevine north of Los Angeles. I am now driving a 05 Cad with the V8 Northstar (improved version) and it is great not to have to turn off the A/C in order to go over these steep inclines. Also go around others in the passing lanes of the interstates. BTW, overall mileage was around 27 mpg this last summer. JMHO
