Toyota Tacoma gas mileage discrepancies

I went ahead and bought a 98 tacoma 2.4 cyl with a 5 spd. After about 10k miles of driving, I'm consistently getting 30 mpg on the highway.

You cant go wrong with that truck. When my 99' has an empty bed I've gotten 28-30 mpg on a trip from Las Vegas to L.A. and back. I did keep it at 65 mph and I really kept my foot off the gas without the A/C on. When the A/C is on the gas mileage drops.

If you want MPG. Stay away from the 4x4 and the 4x4 look a like " pre Runner" and the V6 models.
The 4 cyl basic models are the only ones that get decent MPG. Unless you just want a Toyota, a Full size truck gets the same MPG as a Tacoma V6 from my personal experience.
