Not as bad as you, but I do have some occasional vibration. I told my service adviser and she said that they would have to try to repeat the same situation in the garage, at a cost to me. I am like no, I'll wait to see if it gets worse. Then I will demand them to check it out.

It's a miracle any car company is turning a profit this year with all the recalls going around.

I'm quite surprised Toyota is willing to do what amounts to an engine overhaul even on cars that are out of warranty. I guess they figure it affects a small enough percentage that the cost will be recouped by the PR value/damage control.

Wouldn't an oil change already be necessary for replacing the piston rings? I'm pretty sure they'd have to remove the oil pan as part of the job.

Wow, this is a monstrous blunder. Not a QC issue either, straight up engineering defect. I cannot even imagine how much this is going to cost Toyota. Heads will be rolling...

Yep, and remember that Toyota had to admit after kicking and screaming that they have that problem with their accelerator getting stuck.

Ford did that on some of the late 70's straight six truck engines but replaced entire pistons form haing too long a stroke. Friend had his done and no more oil burning from ring wear.

I have a 2006 IS with only 78K miles. An independent Toyota Lexus service center diagnosed the problem and advised us to take it to Lexus for them to run the tests. When they did it was confirmed. Unfortunately they said my vehicle was 11 days outside of the company policy to repair. The dealer appealed to Lexus and after several weeks we were finally advise that Lexus flat denied to cover the problem. Not happy and am in process of complaining directly to Lexus. This car is driven by my wife and she did not pay attention to rough running. She drives so little that this problem was not diagnosed earlier. I also feel it was a bit of a cover up since they did not notify owners of the potential problem and their service bulletin so we could have it tested.

Apparently 2006 models are included in this. My dealer offered to perform this recall on our 2006 IS250 last year and we were not having any problems with the car.
