On the Club Lexus forum, this has been a big discussion since Lexus announced that they would be replacing piston rings basically rebuilding the engine on all Lexus IS 250 models from 2007-2010 and GS300 models.

This is directly from the letter:
################################################## ###################################
Intermittently runs rough after coming to a stop with the engine at operating temperature.
Intermittently runs rough with engine misfires present after a cold soak startup.

If this condition occurs one or more of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes* (DTC's) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P304, P305, and/or P0306 may be recorded
*The check engine light may illuminate for reasons unrelated to this condition.
################################################## ########################

Has anyone had this service done yet or heard about it?

My dealer just completed the repairs on my vehicle, and it's running better. I got a free water pump replacement out of it too. Has anyone had this service repair?

You are absolutely right. I basically have a new engine. My car runs smoother and with more power as a result of this warranty major repair. Toyota and Lexus' cars are very reliable vehicles. When I owned my 2000 Camry, I traded it in with 240,000 miles on it, and the engine was still good.

Club lexus.com forum is where people were talking about their recall letter. The thread's title is Carbon Build Up.

Great. Now what the dealer is doing, is checking the engine and running a test to see if those codes are coming up in order to make the repairs.

Is your brother's car having a rough idle when he stops? If he has experienced any rough idling then he should take his vehicle in to get it tested. I heard that some dealers are charging customers for running the test fyi.

I had the rough idling without getting a letter from Lexus, and when I took my vehicle in to get serviced and asked them to run the test, that's when my service advisor told me that my engine qualified for the recall. I also have an extended warranty on my vehicle. But my SA said that it was paid for under the Lexus CSP Recall for all 2009 through 2010 IS and GS models. I did wait almost 10 months before they made the repairs on my vehicle. So think about the back log of cars they have to still repair.

I just called Lexus for a quote on new tires for an IS250 and the service rep asked me if I had experienced any problems with idling, which I did about a month ago but it only happened twice? So when I replied yes she said I should bring the car in and if it qualifies they may replace the pistons, rings, and do an oil change for the my troubles. I went to the Lexus website to research the recent recalls and nothing came up??
So I googled it and long and behold, should have known the CD'ers would be all over it, lol. Taking mine in on Saturday, so I will find out then if it qualifies?
Curious if anyone else has had trouble with the rubber gasket you push to open the trunk? Mine has melted and the rubber drips down the car in high temps?
