Hi everyone.
I'm having a hard time charging my cell phone (standard USB) & GPS
(Garmin) in my Toyota corolla. The electronics people know of little
Variation In these adaptors (straight usually).
Problem is that the 2012 corolla only has 1 energy port - in the " cigarette
Lighter " location. When I try to use it to charge my GPS or an adaptor for
My GPS & cell I can't always get the car into park. It's a. Automatic
But the shift lever jams against the plug/cord Interface when I put the
Car in park. Not only would this ruin the GPS cord but one time I thought
I had "jammed" the car in park but it was not in park.
Best buy offered me straight extensions, which would make it worse.
Garmin had no solutions.
Toyota told me to "think RV" & buy an adaptor which brings the power connection
Out to me.
Went to auto zone & found 2 types. I bought one shaped like a cup
Which fits into the cup holder w/a curly extension. It charges (theoretically)
2 USB & 2 dc items. Problem is I had reliability problems w/2 of them.
They are made by Bell. 1 failed after 45 days (not alot of use) &
Now one is failing intermittently. I was so surprised that I checked
The GPS In the car port directly - is not the car, the phone or the GPS;
It's this adaptor.
Problem is that the only other kind they had was just a strip. I would
Have to double side tape it around the console by passenger foot
Area. I don't think it would hold & I may not be able to reach it anyway.
That's why I bought a 2nd Bell brand. There isn't much accessible
Space & the cup holder is easy to use.
But they are too unreliable.
I am moving In a week & will need this GPS & phone!
Does Anyone have a suggestion? Are there more reliable brands?
Thanks.
