I used to drive 1100-1200 miles a week. Twice your commute. Had 04 CR-V at that time and she did fine through 110 000 miles. All repairs I had to do was fuel tank cap and adjust transmission mount, which was 5 minute DIY job.
Corollas are good cars. She should get you through MANY miles, under considerate driving habits and REGULAR maintenance.
But if I were you, I'd sell her and get Prius instead. Hard to beat 50-54mpg.

Rave, I wasn't buying a new car, unless you were talking about someone else. I was talking about moving closer to my job.

My mistake, I misread the first post.

Move if the 50 mile drive is too much for you mentally or physically. But don't do it for the sake of the car. There are very few cars that have better reliability and gas mileage than a Corolla!

You've got to be kidding, that Corolla isn't even broken in yet ! I bought my first Corolla in NC and it had 110,000 miles on it. We left in it that week for California, and it never missed a beat. I also commuted over 100 miles a day in California, then drove it back to Pa, and eventually drove it to Florida. When I got rid of it and bought my second Corolla it had almost 200,000 on it and was running like a clock.

The mileage you have on your relatively new one is nothing. Just have it serviced as needed and enjoy a very troublefree, economical little car.

Don

5 times 5 is 250 miles a week, lets just say 300 miles a week at 30 miles per gallon time 4$s a gallon or 40 $'s a week for gas, every 10/12 weeks change ur oil 30 bucks. 15,800 miles a year. if the drive is less than a hour each way ur doin good, after more than a hour commute it gets no fun. Look in the owners manuaul and stay aggressive with the maintance and I'd say ur 1st problems with a corolla should occur around da 250/300,000 mark, that's why they sell so well, lol.

Since the Corolla is a FWD car, replacing the front brakes and front tires are not unusual expenses for a car with 65,000 miles on it, which as others have stated, is nothing for a car as bulletproof as a Corolla as it relates to reliability.

You'll probably need a new battery as well as a brake job on the rear wheels in the not-too-distant future, but with 90% of your driving consisting of highway driving, your 2010 Corolla is still 'just getting broken in' as was previously stated, so if you like where you live now, there's no reason to move.

If you can take public transit to work a couple of days a week, you might want to consider that as well

I drove a '99 Corolla on a 42 mile round trip commute for over five years. It was dealer loaner and had a little over 19K on it when I bought it in 2000. I drove it until 140K and it had no major problems. I finally sold it in 2007 and it was still running like a champ.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I do a 50 mile round trip commute as well. I do it with a 99 Camry and 203,542 miles on it. You have nothing to fear but, fear itself.....that and maybe a real fear of any GM, Ford, or Chrysler product....drive it, change the oil, and replace the plugs, timing chain, water pump at 100,000.....repeat.

Don't move for the sake of your car. Only move if it will improve your quality of life. A 50 mile roundtrip commute is about average for most people. Many people commute even farther. Your Corolla will be fine. But if your 25-mile one-way takes you over an hour, it is your quality of life that will be hurt before your car is.
