Some Audis and Volkswagens can use 1 qt in 1000 miles and that can be considered acceptable by the manufacturer.

1/2 qt between oil changes is probably 100% normal. Every car will "burn" a small bit of oil during combustion. As it ages, it will consume more. An '08 Honda is already six years old and your car's oil consumption is probably just fine.

No, it isn't. However, it would appear to be too difficult for most grease monkeys at these types of places to handle, hence why my car ended up on the evening news as a car fire story.

What motor is it? I've heard that some of the Toyota 2.4L 4 cyl cars have had some oil usage issues. I know on the Vibe & Matrix forums it is an issue with some of the 2.4L models, so it is something you should at least monitor every month or so. My Vibe has the 2.4L and uses virtually no oil between changes of 5K-10K miles (synthetic blend vs full synthetic) and has over 73K miles on it. In the past, 1/2 quart between changes was normal. On my Mustang after 100K miles I added a quart every 1,500 miles, but when it got to 225K it was a quart every month or so, as the valve guides leaked.

Just watch the level and you should not have any problems with it.

Good luck on it!

Plus, any shop that does many oil changes at all will use bulk oil. There is no difference between bulk and individual bottles, except the cost.
Apparently, getting the point of my post is indeed rocket science!!

A friend of mine ended up with a blown motor because the Wal Mart employee did not put oil back in his car!!! True story....

Stay away from Wal Mart, Jiffylube and other similar places or you'll be sorry.

Wellllllll.... GM says 1/4 of a qrt is "normal" per 1000 miles, but that's same company that believes that knocking engines are "normal" too.
1st question is - what does your manual say about oil changes? Sure thing it ain't no 3000 miles, you simply make them oil changers rich. Likely 7 to 10 000 miles. But!!
2. if you lose 1/2 qrt by 3000 miles, you'll lose 2 by 8 000 miles. Oil has tendency to "disappear" faster as it gets more used.

I wouldn't be panicking, but caution is the right word. There is several fixes to your concern. One is Lucas oil stabilizer added to oil. 2nd is Seafoming engine. Seafoam removes carbon deposits on piston rings, re-tightening them and reduces oil consumption. 3rd is to got from 5W20 oil to 10W30. A little bit heavier oil comes with less consumption.

If you must use Wal Mart, I would think if they made a mistake they could afford to make it right unlike some little private shop.

What is wrong with Walmart?

And if that is not a good place to go, where *is* a good place to go and why is that better?

Hahahahahaha.... I would never trust a Wal Mart oil change place or person. That is your first problem.

Why aren't you using 0W-20 synthetic in your camry and changing it every 5,000 as recommended in the handbook?

Actually they can afford better attorneys to make sure they are not held responsible. They also don't care about reputation hit from one bad review.

Yes, I guess that's a bad thing but I've never had any Toyota use or lose oil!
