I found a 2007 ES 350 on the private market. It's a one owner with 38k miles, base model. I test drove it today, and it was a fantastic ride. Very quiet, no rattles, everything worked perfect, and all maintenance records. The owner is an older gentleman who was a mechanic, although rarely drove the car. In fact it drove nicer than a 2010 ES I test drove last week, that was also a one owner.
Other than slight scuff on the rear bumper, aesthetically the vehicle is also in great shape. I'm going to have it inspected at a Toyota/Lexus shop this Monday or Tuesday and see how it checks out on a lift.
The asking price is 15,900, which feels a bit high to me. Valuations seem to come in anywhere from 13k-15.3k.
Assuming the car checks out, what do you think a fair offer would be? My only concern is that it was not driven that much, and wonder how much of an issue that may be for gaskets (drying up) etc? I plan on taking a lot of long trips in this car, and driving it daily right away. No garage queens for me, I put miles on my cars. Our Camry has 237k and going strong.
I wouldn't pay 15K for a 2007 ES. It is a high trim Camry after all. The car is 8-9 yrs old, might have been only driven for short trips which is not good for it. The owner has priced it high I assume based on the low miles, but this car might not be any better than another one with 120K hwy miles on it.
And he should not. It's well below market price for the car. Not sure what you base your "feels" on the price on, I simply go to local craigslist and scope similar vehicles from private party. Unless you are somewhere cars are real cheap, for that little mileage it's a good price. Esp if it were J VIN vehicle.
15 grand! You can buy a near new one around here with a one year warranty all day for a hair over 10 grand. Somebody needs a major reality check. These are not high demand cars and the styling is meh at best. Looks like any other econobox on the road. But if you like tellin folks you drive a Lexus, give 'em 20 grand for it. That'll make it sound more expensive.

Well, it's easy fix though. OP can kindly look up local to him or her craigslist listings and determine, is the vehicle overpriced or not. Around here, in Seattle area, with much higher mileage, they start at close to $17000.
And Mr trapperL may want to prove us all wrong by simply doing same. Outside of huge chop shop area in GA, I am not aware of car prices that are so drastically lower and you know what - folks from all over the country will be buying cars there and re selling them everywhere else. So, until it;s proven - it's a hearsay.

It's still for sale today @ 15,200 now. So I guess he's not having much luck. Super nice guy and very well maintained though for sure. In the meantime we ended up buying a fun Acura for the Missus and starting to look at Lexus again for me. Although now I'm eyeing the LS 430. If I could find a one owner with all records, I may jump on that instead.
If you want the ES, I'd do a firm market price offer in the $13K-$14K range on a clean sale (cash/local bank/CU transfer). Nobody in their right mind holds on to a car for this long to haggle over $1K. If he won't take a good offer at this point he's nuts.
That said I'd rather drive an LS430.
