I have a Toyota 4 Runner, SUV, 6 cylinder, 1998 Limited Edition with 35,000 miles, that can move a house down the highway, original owner, garaged, and in excellent condition. It has only gone from the garage to the Supermarket. What is the meaning of a "LIMITED EDITION." in cars terms? Does it mean that they only produced so many of them for that year? Will the value of such a car increase or decrease, as the years go by?

Thank you,

Limited is just the top trim level. It's not like it's a limited-production version or anything of that nature.

It's rare in the sense that it's 20 years old and only has 35K miles on it.

Yes, that’s extremely low miles, and so far you have been lucky. We had a 1996 4Runner Limited, and got rid of it at 101,000 miles after having to rebuild the transmission at 90,000 miles, then at 99,000 a head gasket blew. Fortunately we found out about a secret recall for up to 100,000 miles and Toyota had to fix it. It also ate brakes, pads only lasted 10-12,000 miles and every time the rotors were warped and had to be replaced.
Sounds like they worked out the bugs 2 years later.

Thank you,
If you ever go to sell this vehicle I would recommend advertising on a 4Runner enthusiasts forum..someone will snap that up in a heartbeat AND be more than likely willing to pay a premium to do so. Just keep it out of the salt!

Very few vehicles will actually increase over the years. The FJ is one of them, the 4Runner is not. Maybe in another 20 to 30 years a very low mileage 4Runner may be worth some big bucks but not now.

I was referring to a premium in comparison to most other mass produced vehicles of that period...not suggesting it's going to be a classic. 4Runners absolutely have their diehard fans.

That is true, they hold their value extremely well.
