I have an older Jeep TJ Wrangler, but have always liked the 4 Runner. I thought I had heard Toyota was going to issue a next generation 4 Runner next year? Although I don't know where I heard that. This gen has had a very long run.

Yes it has. It will be 11 years with the current generation with the 2020's. I have heard to look for the 6th gen in 2021 but that is no guarantee since the current gen is still selling very well.

I had a 1st generation for 10 years and currently have a 2nd generation for 16 years now. Also owned a 3rd gen for a couple years.

Needless to say I prefer the older models, even though newer ones ride better and get more MPG.

I have owned my 92 since 1994. That is 25 years now and it still runs great.

As has the Land Cruiser, 200 series. They're both reaching a reasonable end of service life, though both sturdy platforms for what they are. Not quite obsolete, but a bit retro.

Big old V8s with craptastic mileage (the 5.7L in my '13 LC returns a thirsty 15mph around town) are dead as the do-do. What I don't get is why they don't massage the turbo diesels from overseas to up the mileage and still provide high performance and towing. I'd buy one in a hot second, which was not an option here in the US.

I think there actually is a roadmap for a big makeover LC. Forerunner, dunno, but it keeps getting slammed in mid-size SUV shootouts for it's old -style shortcomings. As does the LC. "Soon," if one wishes to buy new, which lord knows I wouldn't do anyway.
