Nothing to be concerned about with the 2002 Corolla's reliability according to Consumer Reports 4/08 issue.

The ONLY flaw that I've been able to find is with the hinge on the center armrest glove box door... other than that... zero problems

There was a running year model change around 2002... the glove box door hinge I'm referring to affects the older style Corolla... don't know about the "New" style.

The only bugs you might ever have with a Corolla are the kind that smack your windshield in the summer. Ive known people with 88 Corollas up to 2007 model years, and all have been absolute gems. Great cars. Not fun to drive (even the S is lame), but great reliability.

One other major issue. Seems that many engines start consuming oil at a high rate at 80K and beyond. Something about the piston rings and a break in period. Had one 2001 Corolla S at 160K. used one qrt per tank at the end 189K when I sold it. Still got 31+ MPG, took a broadside hit and run to make me sell it for $1000. Buyer dropped another engine in it since a piston was also busted. Currently driving a 2002 Corolla LE 77K and getting some oil consuption 1/2 quart per 3+ tanks.

I have a 2002 Corolla and I have tried and failed 5 times to get it NY state inspected. Now it says the catalytic converter is not running to level! I have replaced the upstream, downstream o2 sensors and the catalytic converter (with one that is rated Calf compliant! I'm at my whits end. Help from anyone would be appreciated!
