It's usually fun to speculate on what the future might hold, but this is one case where we're not so enthused. First of all, nobody in their right mind really wants to see GM fold (at least they shouldn't), regardless of the fact that it has been mismanaged for a good portion of its 100-year run. There have been some seriously cool machines that have rolled out of GM's various divisions, not the least of which is the iconic American sportscar, the Corvette.
No way.... I don't want to see the Corvette die, but I can't see this happening. Besides, Toyota's flagship performance car is the Supra. Bring that car back...
In principle, Toyota could adapt the V-12 they use in Japanese market only limos, possibly consulting with Yamaha or Suzuki on how to hotrod it, set that up in a car like an updated Supra, and if they would just keep the electronic doo-dads down to a minimum...6 speed tranny or maybe better yet transaxle like a 928...consult with Lotus Engineering on chassis development...I could imagine a Corvette recipe with a strong dash of wasabi turning out quite tasty actually...
At the same time, I'd hate to see what is essentially the only regular production US built car that's worth a damn go away (I'm arbitrarily considering the Viper and the GT-40 to *not* be regular production)
That would never, NEVER happen, so y'all need to quit crying, seriously. Most of us would hate to see a Vette with a Toyota badge anyways, mainly because it would put a blemish on Toyota's reputation. lol j/k
Anyone remember the Toyota 2000GT from the late '60's, it had a role in one of the James Bond flicks. Possibly as close to a 'Vette as I would hope Toyota will ever get. Hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet----Corvette may you live forever!!!
