...Meanwhile down at the electrical engineering lab everyone is still stumped as to what the problem is.

If this wasn't so serious, I'd be laughing hysterically at Toyota. They look like such fools.

Well... is it worse to laugh or worse to defend? Seems like alot of bleeding heart toyota fans are willing to let the bodies pile up in a quest to save face.

I agree 100%. It's worse to defend, but I still can't laugh in light of fatalities caused by Toyota's wonderful quality.

So now the question is, does some part of the moving pedal assembly stick, or is it the electronic components (mostly the logic) that are faulty? I'm really curious about whether it's the drive-by-wire system, or the mechanical part of the pedal. Sometimes people are quick to assume that anything-by-wire must automatically be faulty.

More to come, I'm sure... whether the details are released, who knows. Either way, a major PR f-up for Toyota.

In light of the fact that Toyota's press release doesn't state what they will be doing to correct the problem, i'm comfortable making the assumption that it's a DBW issue. Also, how can you explain their assertion that a "mechanical" part can become so worn out that the condition can occur on new vehicles?

I found this quote on CNN amusing so I would like to share:

"Toyota...moving forward...literally "

Yep, even when you don't want it to.
