Who do you think will benefit most in increased sales from Toyota's major problems? I'm asking partly because I've been a loyal Toyota owner who will not be buying another one, at least in the short term (next 5 yrs).

So far Ford has got the biggest bounce. In the long term who will take up most of Toyota's lost market share??

Hyundai. After years as a very well-marketed also-ran, their latest models have been earning a very good reputation.

i would guess that car buyers would move to Honda, truck/SUV buyers would move to Ford and Nissan.

Ford is up 42% in Feb and the #1 selling auto maker in the United States. Last time Ford was #1 was 12 years ago!

I would have to say Ford. They're current product line up matches up very well against Toyota and provides a nice blend of Asian/Euro/American feel to their cars. I think they will come out the big winner on the Toyota side. However, GM, in paricular Buick, will take a decent chunk of the Lexus fall out with their new product offerings.

Hyundai and Honda will also be picking up a good chunk of business from the former Toyota loyalists that just can bring themselves to buy a non-Japanese name plate.

Ultimately, the potential is there for Toyota to best benefit from their problems, if they take it as a learning experience on customer relations and not taking your position for granted.

Specifically the Ford Fusion is experiencing a huge surge (116% since last year), not surprising since most sudden execration problems are in the Fusion's mid size competitor the Camry. By comparison the Accord is only 25%, although that percent of its larger existing market share has it as the USA's best selling car right now

While that's true I still feel their success will remain independent of Toyota's crisis... which is actually a good thing for them.
