As we all know, even though flying is generally pretty darned safe, sadly accidents do happen from time to time - often with significant loss of life.
From time to time however there ARE crashes that are actually pretty good news to report - Captain Sully's terrific emergency landing in the Hudson a while back for example.
This relates to just such a crash - a crash with news that is really pretty good to hear compared to what COULD have happened (and actually with a somewhat humorous tint). While NO accident is really funny, there is a bit of humor in the title of this story). If this was all that ever happened in plane crashes it wouldn't be such a big deal to be involved in a crashe (sadly that's not always the case). In any event, the pilot of this small plane was pretty darned lucky - and maybe it's just my twisted sense of humor, but I had to chuckle at this tale (at least the title of the story).
Bird strikes are not a laughing matter. There was damage to the airplane that the pilot will have to deal with. Then there are insurance issues and the hassle of dealing with an FAA inspector for the next few months. I feel very sorry for this pilot. Birds "in and around the vicinity of the airport" is a serious problems, espicially the large buzzards present in the South.

Oh I know it's a serious issue. Still, the title of the article is pretty funny - and it COULD have been a whole lot worse. In truth, considering what happened, the pilot has a LOT to be thankful for.
How about this; I was stationed at Hanscom AFB when a seaplane landed there. He came in so nice and smooth that he never even realized that he forgot to put the landing gear down. He did notice that the plane seemed awfully sluggish when he tried to taxi off the flightline.
