Unlike most other non-smoking states, Wisconsin in July passed a statewide smoking ban that bans smoking in every hotel guestroom.
In most states that have banned smoking in public places, such as Kansas, the legislation allows hoteliers to exempt a certain percentage of guestrooms.

I just vacationed in Wisconsin AND Illinois. Neither of the hotels I was in had any smoking rooms available. They didn't even OFFER them. So I would assume that smoking was against the hotel's policy.
Luckily, I no longer smoke, but all I would have had to done was walk outdoors and enjoy my tobacco if I still did.
GOOD!!! Nothing is worse than a room that reeks of stale cigarette smoke. Not to mention the film of old smoke, nicotine that is all over everything.
IMHO, all public buildings (including hotels and restaurants) should ban smoking from their premises. Here in NY, there are signs saying "No smoking within 50 feet of the building" and yet people STILL smoke right outside the door!! They should put in a sprinkler system!
I'm a smoker, and, increasingly, I'm giving up on traveling anymore due to the restrictions on smokers.
Even as a smoker, I hate the smell of smoke in my room, and prefer a hotel with a balcony, where I can slip out of room for a smoke, not take the elevator down 10 floors, and go outside and smoke, particularly if you travel to the colder regions of the country in winter. Imagine going outside the lobby of a hotel in Wisconsin in January with the wind blowing and it's below zero!
But where or where are the balconies? Or the outdoor hallways wrapping around the outside of the building where you can lean against the railing and smoke there?
Obviously, the room occupancy rate is high enough to justify excluding smokers and they will not be missed.
And here in Las Vegas, at the MGM Signature Hotel/Condo's, you're not even permitted to smoke on ther balconies!

Take a trip to Jamaica, none of this nonsmoking nonsense. Pretty much all bars and restauratns are outside so that's not really an issue but your still allowed to smoke in side their airport which I like since I'm scared of flying and a smoke calms me down.

I guess they were afraid that ignorant kids would jump from the balconies and get themselves hurt.
e-cigs; I smoke on the planes but I do go to the head so as not to cause alarm. Works great, better than nicorette and completely relieves the anxiety and NO SMELL (I dislike the smell of 2nd hand smoke, weird, I know)... well, that and maybe a couple of cocktails and xanax. Anyway, probably won't be available online much longer in the US. Comes with a battery charger and your own brand of liquid cartridges to mimic almost any brand... works great.
I didn't think Wisconsin was on anyone's vacation list! I can't imagine someone willingly going there, on a vacation. I can think of many other places to see, WI is not one of them!
