I was just checking a flight status on Delta's site and they have this advisory up. Hope no one is going to Ecuador any time soon!

Advisory: Quito, Ecuador airport closed
The Quito airport in Ecuador has been temporarily closed due to civil unrest in the area. This means that some flights to or from Quito, Ecuador could be delayed or cancelled. If your flight is affected by this airport closure, check the latest bulletin (http://www.delta.com/traveling_checkin/flight_status_updates/advisories/ecuador/index.jsp - broken link) to view your options. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please regularly check the up-to-date arrival and departure times of your flight.

Dang, I was researching Ecuador as a possible trip in the near future. Interesting to see how things play out.

But I'm suuuurrreee it's just "American Media" sensationalism and us greedy Americans hating on Ecuadorians.

The outcry from the pseudo-intellects Mother's basements will be deafening!

Just book your flight to Guayaquil, which I think has more flights than Quito anyway.

Guayaquil is Ecuador's main business center and the largest city. I would say the different between Guayaquil and Quito is similar to the difference between NYC (finance/business center) and Washington, D.C. (the capital).
Ecuador is normally a relatively stable place and it has a lot to offer the tourist.
If you decide to go there, don't miss the famous Galapagos Islands.

Unfortunately, Guayaquil isn't near the area of Ecuador I want to explore - Quito is.

No problems, will just keep abreast of things - only in the planning stage right now. It's not like Ecuador is going to disappear next week.

If you plan on visiting Quito, don't miss the Equator line as well as the Otavalo market which are both nearby.
