I am looking to travel to Maine. When is a good time and what should I see? Where should I start? I have a lil dog 5 pounder travel friendly and want to know where can visit and stay. I have seen pictures of Maine and the area around the Marinas. Please give some advise about what time of the year is best and where to go. Thanks. I am looking for seafood, friendliness and relaxation.

It's too bad that you weren't here now with fall foliage at it's peak throughout the state. But unless you ski, snowmobile or ice fish, I would hold off planning your visit until spring or summer. With the beautiful summer that we just had, tourists flocked to our beaches, parks & lakes in droves. Traveling U.S. Route 1 along the coast is very scenic and Wells, Kennebunkport, Camden, Boothbay Harbor and Rockport will not disappoint. Renting a cabin on one of the many lakes: Sebago, Long, Rangeley & Belgrade are lovely, but can be pricey. Moosehead Lake Region is beautiful, but a good 3.5 hour drive from Portland.

Bar Harbor area is very pet friendly. This past year we visited the Boothbay/Camden area, which we really enjoyed. We traveled in an RV so we didn't use a hotel. Do a search "pet friendly hotels in Maine" or the town where you are interested in going. We visited in early September one year and in July another year. Both seasons were very nice. We found people friendly but the festivals tend not to be pet friendly.

Thanks. We went to California in August. I know we won't travel to Maine in the winter. So next summer sounds great. Thanks for the tips
