Trying to decide on a family vacation for two weeks in June, something economically friendly for a family of 5 with kids who are 16, 11 and 7. I love Washington State, Oregon and Salt Lake City, but my family has never been there and I have limited time there. Anyone have suggestions or thoughts????

What's your family's interests? Washington has a lot to offer in outdoor activities, from mountain camping, hiking and canoeing to Ocean fishing and shoreline activities. Oregon is about the same.

Salt Lake City is close to some mountains, but I can't imagine what I'd do there for two weeks. I once spent a couple days there -- toured what Mormon stuff we could, visited a planetarium (where I took a nice nap) and took a round-a-bout trip to Park City. There are some beautiful (desert) national parks in the southeast corner of Utah, but they're quite a ways from Salt Lake.

Have not been to Seattle in about 10 years. However back then there were lots of family things to do. Lots of museums. There is a decent aquarium along the waterfront. The Pike Street Market will eat up an afternoon. You can go out to the Seattle Center. At one time Seattle had a great mass transit system. Not sure how it is now. If you have a car there is lots to see within an hour or two drive. You can head over to Mt Rainer.

Never been to either place but would love to go to Washington State and spend some time in Seattle and the Olympic National Park.

It would take at least two weeks for a good trip around Utah:

Antelope Island in Salt Lake
Golden Spike NM north of Ogden
Tipanagos Caves near Provo
Dinosaur NM
Arches NP near Moab
Canyonlands NP near Moab
Zion NP near Cedar City
Bryce NP near Cedar City
Capitol Reef NP
Mt. Nebo Loop near Payson.

And that is just off the top of my head. I am sure that I am missing a few dozen other attractions.
