Never been to one, closest would be summer camp. Going to one, expensive one, La Quinta, retarded questions... Do they already supply the basics like soap to shower, shampoo, toilet paper, what else?

All hotels supply toilet paper & towels. Upscale hotels usually supply small bars of soap and small bottles of shampoo & conditioner.

Yup, you'll have the basics - although I like to bring my own shampoo, the hotel ones tend to be a tad on the perfumed side for my tastes. (Always bring toothpaste, though.)

You'll probably have a hair dryer and possibly an ironing board/iron as well.

Don't make phone calls, they're insanely expensive. And weirdly enough, the economy hotels tend to have free wireless, while many high-scale ones will charge.

Free breakfast too! You can even skip the toothpaste. Most hotels will have a sign on the vanity that if you've forgotten to pack something, a call to the front desk can get it. Even budget hotels will give you soap, shampoo, body lotion, etc.

You can check the website to see what the room is equipped with. Many have small refrigerators and coffee makers, and as mentioned, hair dryers and ironing boards.

I didn't expect my Days Inn to have an iron, based on what it said on the website. But it did.

I'm mostly interested in the bed and the shower/bathtub. I've been in hotels that had refrigerators in them. Most have had climate control systems in them (A/C, heater). TV too.

LaQuinta gives you soap and shampoo. They also offer a complimentary breakfast of varying quality depending on location.

LaQuinta is hardly an expensive place.

In my experience, even mid-range, average hotels will supply these too. Upscale hotels often supply "luxury" items like hand lotion and they may even be from big name companies like Bath and Body Works.
