Europe is great, so much history and culture. One of the best things is you don't need a car. Traveling by rail is really easy and it is very efficient.
I've always wanted to go to Europe, it's been my dream and I'll be there for two weeks next year. I look at my circle of friends and maybe one or two people have traveled over there. I don't know why...maybe it's money, maybe it's fear that they're not in America and they become a target. Whatever the reason, I feel like we're so closed minded that we stay here, grow old and immediately have regrets for not ever venturing out and exploring. The US is such a small part of the world.
I'd rather travel to a non-Western country/city; I've found Europe, at least Western Europe, to be too similar to the States (sure there are many differences, but too many similarities all the same for my tastes).

Wonderful. But don't worry about being a target. I just got back from two weeks in Eastern Europe. We rented a car and drove all over. We had no problems (had a Tom Tom GPS). If you go, get out of the big cities and explore the country and small towns.
