The way we often judge foreigners is how friendly the overseas visitors are. I think this isn't valid, because people are usually happy or happier than usual when on holidays. The real way to judge would be to see them in their day to day lives. Do you agree?
Ehh, its all overplayed regardless. I think all people in all countries are exactly the same. You have your mix of rude, happy, reserved etc etc etc everywhere. You will see different customs and ways of life, but in the end all people are going to pretty much be the same. The second country I went to was Colombia, I was pretty excited for this one because everything I read was " ohh the people are extra friendly, you have to go and see how nice the people of colombia are" and honestly, I found americans more friendly in general.
I dunno, a lot of the tourists we see are whiny and demanding. They frequently come with the attitude of "I spent a lot of money to get here and I'm on vacation, you'd better cater to ME!" They forget to pack politeness and consideration. Some of them also forget to pack common sense. It's not all tourists, but even when it's only ten percent of them, that's enough.
I think some (American) tourists find it hard to relax and forget the problems & issues back at the workplace while they are gone. With the little time they have to get away they like to force as much as they can into the day/s away from work.
Their job stress really never melts away in such a short period of time their on vacation.

And I am one of the worst offenders of this. My husband frequently makes comments to others about the way I 'vacation', that I work his legs off. I always try to see and do everything I can.
To my defense, though, when I go to the beach or poolside to relax and bask in the sun, he doesn't like that, either.
I've had a few converations with a few people who work in touristy areas, and they have their own opinions about who are the rudes tourists. My favorite comments came from a cable-car gripmen who said that his biggest headaches were French tourists.
Funny thing is, cable-car gripmen can be downright surly themselves.
I try to be tolerant while on vacation, most of these people deal with tourists and that's not an easy job sometimes. Yeah that's their job, and they don't always like it just like I didn't like mine. I wonder where "they" go to get away from it all? lol
