Either how I get another Irish one from here or something else I can get to drive into the USA. We are going on a road trip so don't suggest flying there! ha thankyou!

Your original Irish driving license number is on your International license. Report the loss of your license to the local police, and get a copy of the police report from them showing the number of your license. That will enable you to drive legally. Don't say your license was stolen, that would be a false police report (unless there is a possibility that it was actually stolen.) In any case, you can justify making a police report on the pretext that you want anyone using it to be recognized as being an impersonator.
Ask the local police if they think the local driving license office in Canada might issue you a provisional license with an expiration date to match your date of departure. There might be a provision authorizing them to do that under exceptional circumstances. If Canada issues a license, it will be recognized in the USA, and it won't need to match your IDL. Gain their sympathy by telling them the rental car is already paid for and committed, and there is no other licensed driver.
Also, someone in Ireland (or you could write yourself) might be able to arrange to have a certificate mailed to you from Ireland stating that you are a licensed driver there, and providing the particulars from your Irish license, or possibly a complete new license reissured. There is enough time to do that between now and the end of March.
