We are planning a multi-family road trip from Houston up thru the West Coast and return thru Vegas
We are planning a 9-day trip and we will either have campers/rv’s by then or just camp out in our tents.
Our kids will range in ages. 2 will be between 2-3 yrs and the other 2 will be 10 & 13

These are the places we plan on visiting:
White Sands, NM
LA
HollywoodSan Francisco
Canyon Lake
Vegas
Catalina Island (Is this feasible?)

The other family as done this trip before (minus the kids and Catalina Island) and were able to do this within the 9 day timeframe.

Any other ideas/suggestions of places we must see?

Monument Valley, Four Corners, Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam, Death Valley, Yosemite.

Take your time, and stay off the interstate as much as possible.

Catalina Island is just a day trip, a boat ride from LA. Don't spend more than the one day. It's not that fascinating though you can see whales from the boat, or at least we did.

Why Canyon Lake? (Family/friends live there? It's not usually a sight-seeing spot.)

you have to figure, on average you'll be able to cover 500 miles a day. 9 days and 500 per gives you a mile budget of 4,500 miles.
the trip you propose, near as i can determine, totals out to 4,100 miles, houston to los angeles, los angeles to san francisco, san francisco to vegas, vegas to houston. if you ask me, your trip plan is a little ambitious to cover in 9 days, especially with a party of 8 people.

Go to Bryce Canyon in Utah. Beautiful, and just the right size for your younger kids. Grand Canyon is great to see, but I would be scared to death with a 2-3 year old hiking any of the trails down.

Skip Vegas, there is nothing there for small children.

This is a good point, with kids Vegas would be a waste IMO.

Santa Catalina would probably be more fun for older ones, too.
