Qantas and Southwest have never had a fatility before.
There was a Southwest plane that ran off the runaway at Chicago-Midway a few years ago, ran into a truck and killed the driver of a truck, but everyone on the plane survived.
You're more likely to die on the way to the airport in your car then you are on the train.
my personal favorite airlines:
1) Lufthansa
2) Porter Airlines
3) Jet Blue
4) Aer Lingus
5) Icelandair
Heard great things about Emirates, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic & Singapore Airlines, but haven't had the chance to take any of them.
What are the latest statistics for this information? What are the airlines that have the least accident rates?
If your flying in Western Europe or the US and Canada you dont need to worry about it. With maybe the exception of Air France but even their safety record is fantastic just not as fantastic as the rest.

It was 6 year old child who died. But yes Qantas and Southwest have almost perfect safety records.

Qantas has an excellent record, expecially when you consider its also the worlds oldest continuously operating airline (KLM Dutch was founded one year before Qantas, but it ceased operations during WW2)
These days most people think its overdue for an accident, their have being a few very close calls recently.

I dont understand the over due stuff. They are doing thing right and its working. For example Southwest has a lot of landings and takeoffs a day with their short turn around times and many short routes compared to other airlines that fly longer flights and have more international flights. Takeoff and Landing is the most dangerous part of any flight and yet Southwest with so many more landings and takeoffs per capita is seen as the safest airline in North America and IMO the safest airline in the world.
