We'd like to relax and walk on beaches, sightseeing, etc.
Sunset on Key Largo is always staggeringly beautiful, and never the same day after day. All restaurants or bars (bayside, not oceanside) at MM (Mile Marker) 99.5, 100, 103, or 104, all hammocks or beach-chairs-in-the-water at Marriott, and the docks at MM 100 are ideal spots to watch/take pictures of the sunset.
I would highly recommend Checca Lodge in Islamorada. My husband and I went last year and we absolutely loved it and plan to go back. We stayed in a private lagoon room away from the other hotel- like rooms and it was so quiet and lovely. The beaches were beautiful and you get bikes included in your stay (included with other amenities for an additional charge) but so worth it. The staff was great too and the restaurants fabulous. It is a little pricey but they do run specials. If you like them on Facebook then you get more specials emailed to you. Best of luck!
Islamorado is where i usally stay. But even it is much chanegd since i went in the early 70's when it was really nice and less a tourist trap. The differnce has really made my last trip my last sad to say but for mnay not having seen the differnce it will make little difference.Kind of like Belize when when it was less crowded and less dangerous really.
I was in Key West in September and had a blast...I didn't find the place to be rowdy and overrun with bars. I stayed at a hotel on Duval Street which was ok, If you go to Key West, please make sure you eat at Grand Cafe on Duval Street..great service and good food.
I stopped at a couple keys along the way like Key Largo and I believe I stopped at Islamorado as well. The place is beautiful...enjoy yourself!
Urgh, the dang roosters are out of control! I stayed at the Key Lime Inn and those things just would NOT STOP!
The keys are nice, I went during Memorial day weekend and it really wasn't crowded at all, not much in the way of beaches or alot of sightseeing. Depending on how long your planning on staying you could take a drive up to the everglades and go on an airboat ride. << Definately recommend it!
