The CEO & I did a long road trip this summer, in our '02 VetteVert: 33 states, 4 provinces of CDA, an Alaska cruise in the middle, 13,000+ miles and 2 months gone. We had a fabulous time, drove some of the finest 2 lane blacktop roads there are, saw amazing sights, met good people, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We rolled through 13 National Parks, a dozen state parks, and wandered where we felt like pointing the Vette that morning. Our only deadline was getting to the AK cruise boat, departing Vancouver, by a certain date.

We had done several cross country m'cycle trips back in the '90s, but it was good to have 4 wheels under us.

Motels and 3 meals a day 'out', got old as did the daily unpack/pack deal, but we never had a road problem or 'people problem' and we were reminded again of the beauty and size of the US and CDA. No tix, no accidents, (a couple close calls with the idiot logging trucks), and we managed to mostly dodge really bad weather.

If you have ever considered a long Road Trip, pick your fave car, do some GOOG mapping, grab a smart phone/laptop, some CCs, and go see the country, imo.

Some Flickr links of our Road Trip. Thanks for looking!
Best Regards, mD

Incredible photos.

Our last road trip was two years ago, 8000+ miles that lasted seven weeks, from Charleston (SC) across the US to Southern CA, up to Canada, across and then down back to Charleston. In a Mini Cooper that was filled to the roof with wine and yarn bought along the way.

Before that, we did road trips very often -- every year or every other year -- from Southern CA to the East Coast (Boston and NYC where children went to different universities and grad schools, or the coast of Maine for the fishing villages that I loved) and back.

While living in Europe, I also did a road trip from Girona to Marbella and back, a shorter distance but felt longer since it made me realize how much I missed the US, for the scenery was very similar to the Southwestern states.
