You may have seen a sign for somewhere, but just carried on driving, you could be with someone that likes to lollop by the pool, so wasted your time in that way, but could have been seeing the sights.

I would have liked to visit Miami, but the pool came first.

So, is there anywhere?

I wish we had time during our recent visit to Washington DC to get over to the Library of Congress. We visited there in 2005 but have always wanted to go back. It is one of the most beautiful structures in the City. We did get to some new things this time ie - The Phillips Gallery, Newseum, and 2 Imax we had never seen at the National Museum of Natural History. Also managed to get over to Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day. The transportation through the cemetery ended - went out of business - in Oct. so I wasn't able to walk the almost mile to my uncle's grave in the cold wind. I was disappointed but we did visit the Eternal Flame.

Oh, gosh! It's true for me on every vacation I've ever had. I've resigned myself to the fact that there are too many places and not enough vacation time. :-)

I recently went on a trip with a friend, and we developed a bit of a leitmotif about that. Every time we saw some goofy roadside thing, one of us would say "If we don't stop to see that, sure as hell someone back home will ask us "Did you stop and see that? It's fantastic!"

I became an avid birdwatcher, AFTER visiting 90 countries without taking note of a single bird. Actually, I was able to reconstruct the identity of four species that I had seen in Africa.

I was with some friends in Prague and we passed up checking out the Kutna Hora Bone Church outside the city. Still kicking myself for not seeing a bunch of stuff made from actual skulls and bones!

That was a really interesting sight when we went. You're in a whole different world when you're in the town there though. Finding your way is quite difficult unless you're on a tour or something.

I should have visited the UP of Michigan when I lived there on a vacation.

There's a pueblo outside of Medellín called Santa Fe that I wish I would have visited. Maybe Santa Marta instead of Cartagena? I also wish I would have done a stopover in Frankfurt instead of just a connection

Restaurants. Our last 2 vacations were with extended family that insisted on cooking at the rental house almost every night. We like to pick a different, preferably Mom-and-Pop place to eat every night. We sometimes travel with another couple and he wants to eat at chain restaurants that he can "trust". We put our foot down there-he either tries something new or we separate for dinner. I understand budget constraints but local cafes can be cheap, and you can try some wonderful exotic flavors-skip the beer and live a little!
