Kazan Cathedral (the Cathedral of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God) is one of the largest temples of Saint-Petersburg. It is an architectural monument of Russian classicism.
The winter Palace. (Photo-St George's hall). Interesting is the fact that many halls and each differs completely from the other. The winter Palace - the former residence of the Russian emperors
a) Sapsan bullet train is overrated and too expensive. just take the Red Arrow overnight train - it is very comfortable, relatively clean and more reasonably priced.
b) wheelchair access would be a nightmare virtually everywhere you go. they started to plan for it in some newer buildings, but dont hold your breath. you WILL stuggle with it.
c) I do not consider Russia unsafe for tourists. as long as you stay in the city center and in general touristy areas, you are going to be absolutely fine, especially in Moscow.
e) public bathrooms in Russia are horrible (except for the private ones where you have to pay upon entrance). please keep some toilet paper with you all the time, you will thank me later. most restaurant bathrooms are very good btw - something to keep in mind.
f) do not drink tap water (doh!).
g) obey traffic laws, but still watch out for crazy/rude drivers, they will most likely not yield to let you pass.

I traveled to Moscow, St. Petersburg ... and elsewhere in Russia as part of a tour group organized by Globus. I'm not the type of traveler who will typically, or hardly ever, travel as part of a group. However, I can't say enough good things about the trip I was on, about our Russian/English speaking guide from the USA or about Globus. For most people making similar trips, I think going as part of a group is the best option.
