Hmnn... Los Angeles is closer according to this site: SEA DISTANCES - VOYAGE CALCULATOR. Honolulu-LA is 2,231 miles while Honolulu-Seattle is 2,403. Must be some other reason.
By law cruise ships of foreign registry that crusie to US ports must stop at least at one foreign port. Departing from CA then to Ensada is the usual stop then on to Hawaii or comming from Hawaii then they stop at Ensada then to CA.
Do you(or any one else) know the rationale behind this law?
Wouldn't you tack the cost of driving to Seattle round trip onto the port fee's
Yeah - actually under the scenario the directions gave - there would be no port fees. Drive from LA-Seattle and start kayaking in Seattle. Must be some other reason - I am thinking advertisement - someone paid to have Seattle as the shove off point for the "driving directions". Either that - or it is safer to kayak out of Seattle. I don't think anyone has ever kayaked from the North American mainland to the Hawaiian Islands - perhaps any reccomendation should be taken wth a large grain of salt.
Even better....google walking directions from 'the shire' to 'mordor' and take note of the caution message
