My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in August. We love the beach but have never been outside of the lower 48. Would appreciate suggestions on where to go. Can't afford to do "top of the line" luxury but would like nice accomodations. Thanks for your help.

August might be a good time to find deals in the Caribbean, so you might be able to stay in a nicer place more economically than if you went in the winter.

My wife & I love Kauai. It's a breathtaking beautiful & diverse island. We can still do 10 days for about $2,200 total.

Just be aware that August will be hurricane watch season in the Caribbean and around the Gulf of Mexico, meaning there is a risk of one developing (I noticed your post about this).

I would definitely suggest a cruise. I have always cruised during hurricane season because it is cheaper. Buy the insurance and you are fine. Plus, as long as you set foot on the ship, they will leave and worse case scenerio is you go somewhere different .

Seeing different islands, yet sleeping in the same place every night is great. You will never ever be bored, yet you can put your feet up in a deck chair and watch the world go by if you chose.

Cruises are very affordable and you can control your spending - since the big part (room and food) is already paid upfront. Tips, alcohol, shore excursions, gambling - are extra though.

My other choice if you were thinking more tropical, would be to stay on an island. My favorite island for 1st timers would be St Thomas. Very safe, plenty to do and more 'like home' than other islands.
