Safety in Lima, Peru at night (hotel, hotel, airport, price)

I am trying to make flight arrangements to Lima and am frustrated because all the reasonably priced flights land in Lima very late, after 11:00 p.m.

Is it safe to be at the airport then? Will reputable taxi companies still be working that late? I know I will want to stay at a hotel in one of the nicer suburbs upon arrival so I feel safer.

Should I book something this late or spend several hundred more and possibly have to make two stops in order to get there early?

I thought that booking flights to South America would be more convenient and less expensive than to Europe. Boy, was I wrong.

I am working on a trip to Peru for myself and most of the flights depart the states in the evening. The later you depart, say Miami, would put you in Lima close to sunrise.

I have not been to Lima but have traveled to other areas in S. America. Inside the airport you are fine. The problem starts when you arrange transport to your hotel.
