Venezuela is back on my list now that Hugo is gone.
Seriously a lot of what we take for granted in the first world is dangerous in the third world. After reading the scary **** on SA I now rethink letting my wife go exploring alone in the second and third world.
Not sure Venezuela will be unhostile to US or stable by our standards anytime soon Margarita Island has been on the ole bucket list for years but the thought of flying into and possibly staying over night in Caracas scares the bejesus out of me

I'd be wary of Venezuela until you see who replaces Hugo. Chavez has allowed the cartels to use Venezuela as a waypoint to smuggle cocaine into the U.S. for years, and as such his own country has more than its share of narco-violence and rampant drug use among citizens. Caracas has since replaced Cuidad Juarez, Mexico for the title of most dangerous city outside a designated war zone as a result, and I have my doubts that is going to change anytime soon.
There is no such place as Victoria Island. It is Vancouver Island where the city of Victoria, which is the capital of British Columbia is located. I lived in Victoria and Vancouver.
Sorry, you are correct.

I do agree that the best way to see the Rockies is to go from Calgary to Jasper.
I have done it many times. I grew up in the Canadian Rockies. I have not only driven across Canada a few times but have also done it by train. We did a circle tour on the Rocky Mountaineer train 5 years ago
I haven't seen as much of the Maritimes and Atlantic provinces as I want to, and I definitely plan on a trek to Churchill at some point in the next 10 years.
Really? Canada has lots to offer, I guess so, like casinos? Toronto wants to build a casino/resort similar to what we have in Vegas. Good, maybe it'll be a Vegas based gaming company that will take away Canadian's hard earned money!!
Many people in Toronto are opposing this. This is my city, and I hate the idea. If they built one out in the suburbs somewhere I wouldn't mind as much, but right downtown? Give me a break.

Gee, how narrow minded can you get? Damn one of the largest countries on the planet because you went to 3 casinos and they weren't like Vegas?

Ugh. Keep them, please!

Jasper to Banff is pretty nice too. As is the drive from Calgary to Vancouver.
I think one thing that can get lost in this thread is the false equivalency between not being interested in a particular location and actually disliking it. It's kinda like how some people are interested in Greek mythology and ballroom dancing while others are interested in video games and photography. No harm, no foul. But to each his own, right?

You're absolutely right. Many prefer not to travel at all. Like this guy:

Basically the only places I care to see are in...NC, SC, FL, Hawaii, and Savannah GA. Anything outside of that seems like a complete bore.
You obviously have no interest in travel. That's okay.

Oh I have interest in travel just places that are actually interesting and safe. Too many nut cases in them over seas places, you watch CNN i'm sure. As for anything not beachy or southern...totally boring and not worth my time. I prefer a beachy, touristy area thats warm and full of life. There are not that many places in the USA that have that, and that are interesting. basically if it isn't hawaii or southern...it sucks and I have no interest in it. I can't wait to tour the Carolinas, and FL. There is so much to see in do in those places.
