I'm traveling round trip from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh by way of Chicago - Southwest Chief and Capital Limited. I'll be in reserved coach the whole way. Anyone have any insights or advice on the trip?
I took the Amtrak from Portland Maine to Orlando. That, I thought was a long trip. We (my spouse and I) had a bedroom from NYC to Orlando leg of the trip, and enjoyed the benefits of a private toilet and shower, with the food included. Even with those perks, it was a hard trip. But if you don't want to drive, and don't like to fly, I think it's a wonderful way to go.
There are forums that deal specifically with Amtrak, which I got a lot of great tips from. Just do a Google search for amtrak forum, and you'll see a few come right up to the top of the search results. There's a lot of good info about each particular route, the stations, the food, what to take, what to do, what to expect, etc.
