Probably safer. Eritrea is great. ZERO tourist facilities though. The plus side is that everything is super cheap.
It's the only place I've ever gone out and gotten liquored up for less than an equivalent of a dollar or two. At the time 1 USD=22 Nakfa. 1 Beer=3 Nakfa
I have been to over 70 countries. If people in America could all see the third world we would have a softer more gentle country. I still not not believe how people live in these places. So many places where people just throw their trash out in the street. Garbage pick up in a luxury in most of the world.
Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Bosnia Hezegovina, Serbia, Albania, Macedonia.
Jailed in Europe, still waiting to cross an ocean or continent some day. Perhaps China next year for the Olympics... or will catch the last boat to America.
Far less than 70!
But I really don't know how many, I don't have a mental list.
I tend to go back to the same countries over and over again; I really like Europe. Am hoping to eventually see more of eastern Europe.
(I agree that airports don't count.)

Only 10 so far but I am working on it if the dollar devaluation doesn't ground me.

I know there are one or two more, I can't member them at this point. But, I still want to go to Russia some day, I hear the people are nice.
