The fact that world class personalities then and now have performed and visited Vegas, considering famous people have enjoyed Vegas, offering some of the best shopping, dining, entertainment, nitelife and accomodations compared to many cities around the world, the word glamor or glamour however you want to spell it is an understatement. You may not like Vegas but plenty more people appreciate the Entertainment Capital of the World.
It depends what kinf of entertainment you like.... Give me Paris, London, or Florence any day. In Oxford a small city I can visit world class museums, art galleries, and see about 10 different wonderful classical music concerts every day, wonderful plays ( often before they make it to the West End in London) , Indie and Foreign films.
I can marvel at stunning architecture, wonderful gardens, eat very well, see opera, jazz, , attend fabulous lectures by world class brains on a daily basis and within an hour can be in London for some pretty darn good Nightlife and Michelin star restaurants.
My idea of entertainment is culture. I don't like magic shows, cabaret style music shows, bling, loud noises, bright lights and tacky plastic looking mock architecture. Watching Celine Dion, endless musicals or the Blue Men Group really holds little appeal to me.
My idea of shopping is independent shops selling unique artisan stuff and I like small luxury historic rural Bed and Breakfasts for accommodation with ideally less than 5 rooms. A five star hotel which is like a corporate hell, has miles of strip-lighted corridors and gold taps and a view over the strip is my idea of vacation Hades. Especially if it is pretending to be something actually beautiful and historic and failing miserably.
New York, London, Rome, Paris are glamourous. Vegas is tawdry and tacky albeit quite often in an obscenely expensive flashy, blingy sort of a way.
It epitomises everything which is wrong about our society IMO. A passive, vapid, shallow chasm of conspicuous consumption, pandering to the lowest common denominator. Best thing about it is the road out of it into the desert. A playground for the eternal adolescent.
It seems to be about people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

You can say the same thing about just about any major city in the world. Neon doesn't impress most people. I'd never call it the "Entertainment Capital of the World" I think NYC pretty much has a lock on that one.
LAS VEGAS, March 12 (UPI) -- Las Vegas was chosen as the list topper for America's Top 15 Trashiest Spring Break Destinations, which also included six cities in Florida.
Coedmagazine.com said it looked at criteria including "Girls Gone Wild" shoots, number of strip clubs, number of Hooters restaurants and looseness of local liquor laws to compile its list, which was topped by Las Vegas, followed by South Padre Island, Texas, and Daytona Beach, Fla.
why would anyone choose Vegas for spring break in the first place? The weather has hardly warmed up, kids under 21 can not gamble and they are very strict about it, the young people can't even be in the casino except to walk through, if they are heading for a restaurant or if it is a casino hotel and they have to go near the casino to get to their rooms. I bet a lot of those who thought of it as trashy, were pissed cause they got kicked out of a casino or were not served a drink...As usual, these studies and polls mean nothing and are a waste of time.

I agree ... I enjoyed the brief trip I had out there but don't feel compelled to go back. Don't care much about the fact that gambling is so in-your-face there (and you are literally forced to go through the casinos to get to your room) and the fact that smoking is permitted indoors. That made me miserable after day one because my eyes were so irritated. No thanks.

I think it's pretty trashy and I've never been kicked out of a room, lost at the tables (I don't gamble--but before anyone gets any ideas, I'm not morally opposed to it, I just doesn't do anything for me), and I've always been able to get a drink when I wanted one.
I think it goes without saying I was talking about non war zones or extremely dangerous places like Sierra Leone or Afghanistan. Though I would prefer many third world places to Vegas still.
I have read and seen enough on places like India to know that if Vegas is your idea of Hell on Earth, your idea of Hell is a lot different than mine. I had my fill of the "Third World" in Havana (not that I am sure Cuba can be even be appropriately described as a "Third World" nation). I can't even imagine what places like Brazil, Bolivia, Africa and south-east Asia must be like by comparison. Then again, I'm not one of those tourists that feels they have to immerse themselves in filth and squalor for a week just to appreciate how good they have it back home.

It's obvious you just like to ignore facts. Vegas then and now continue to host world class artists not just from the United States but beyond. Who said they come here for just the Neon lights? You don't like Vegas so much and yet you talk about it so much!! Move on!!!!
By the way, as much as you don't want any of it, we've got more coming, more hotels, more attractions and yes MORE NEON since you've mentioned it!!That is just the Strip, I won't bore you with the rest of the attractions in Clark County.

Get with the times, we have some of the best day and night life around. Vegas resorts host some the worlds top DJs on a regular basis. Pool parties aside from the nightclubs are some of the biggest money makers in Clark County. 7 out of the 10 top grossing nightclubs in the US are in Vegas.
By the way just in case you have not checked lately, current daytime temperature this week in Clark County are in the 70 to 80 degrees.
Jealousy and envy can bring out the worst in people but anyway enjoy life wherever you are. I am most certainly enjoying life here in the Entertainment Capital of the World.

It's pretty obvious you're not a fan but there are others who will surely replace you and will have fond memories of their visit here in Clark County and that includes Prince Harry.
